Community Police Academy starts Mar. 9, and here’s how YOU can sign up

The King County, Burien and SeaTac Police Departments will be holding a FREE Community Police Academy this spring, and registration is now open.

Classes will begin on Thursday, Mar. 9, 2017, and will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday night at the SeaTac City Hall Council Chambers.

Class size is limited though and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

This is a great way to get to know more about local law enforcement, meet your local cops and learn how you can help fight crime:

  • Students are given the opportunity to meet K-9 dogs, go on Ride-Alongs with an Officer, see Bomb Squad exhibits and equipment, tour the 911 Communications Center, the SCORE Jail, as well as get a “shot” at the Firearms Automated Training System.
  • Students will have an opportunity to learn the role of a law enforcement Police Officer as well as about the criminal justice system.
  • Students will attend 12 Thursday classes, plus a graduation including a certificate of completion and pictures with class members and Police staff.

To register, contact CSO Carlos Marquez at (206) 510-1526 or CSO Sana Wight at (206) 973-4915.

“In 10 weeks, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of how your police department functions. It’s a great time and spots will fill up quickly!” police said in a statement.
