King County Sheriff’s Deputies help SeaTac residents in need

Operators in the King County Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 division get all sorts of calls 24/7/365, but on Saturday, Nov. 3 they received one that was a little different, which ultimately involves deputies going above and beyond the call of duty:

Kindness matters. A kind act can change a person’s life, no matter how small it seems to the person giving it. There are so many unrecognized acts of kindness. Today we would like to share a story shared by one of our 9-1-1 call takers that happened this weekend:

“On 110318 I received a 9-1-1 phone call from a citizen staying at the Seatac Inn asking for food assistance for him and his wife. They had not eaten in two days and had no means to purchase food.

Unfortunately there were no CSOs (Communicty Service Officers) on duty at the time so I referred him to both 211 and the Crisis Line for assistance. The caller reached out to them however they were unable to help him at the time. I searched for any emergency food resources in the area however none of them were open on Saturday night.

As a last resort, I sent a message to the city of Seatac deputies as well as the SGT asking if they knew of any organizations that could help this citizen. I got a reply from Deputy Marshall and Deputy Scherck asking me to generate a call and to put them on it. I also received a phone call from SGT Kajihiro asking me about their situation and requested to be put on the call as well.

The SGT and the deputies were able to purchase food OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS and deliver it to the man and his wife at their motel room. They also had the Mobile Crisis Team respond to assist these folks for long term food assistance.

I was so moved by this very kind gesture that I wanted to make sure that these deputies are recognized for what they did for this citizen. This amazing act of kindness truly exemplifies what KCSO is all about.”

This is a great snapshot of how the SeaTac Deputies respond to their public every single day. Thank you to everyone involved, and thank you to all of our law enforcement personnel who have been so kind and caring without the publicity. .
