SUMMARY:Volunteers needed for North SeaTac Park work part Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to help restore beautiful North SeaTac Park’s forest this Sunday\, Mar. 20\, 2021\, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. \n“Please join us tomorrow in North SeaTac Park’s Enchanted Grove – an area that\, for more than a year\, volunteers have been transforming from an ocean of ivy\, blackberry\, & litter to the forest of Douglas Fir and Madrones that it should be. This is work that really matters.” \nAt the March 6th work party\, volunteers planted 70 baby trees where once there were only weeds. If you’ve been working at this site in the past but haven’t seen it for a while\, expect to see a dramatic transformation. \nThere’s also a forest rescue event next Sunday from 3-5 at the S. 136th St. and Des Moines Memorial Dr. S. location. For that event\, check out https://seatac.greencitypartnerships.org. \nThe weather forecast looks good! Temperatures in the low 40s and a low chance of rain. Only 7 people are registered – and 20 can come – so there’s plenty of room for you. Registration is required. Online (by tonight) or in-person both work well. \n“See you under the trees!” \nMore info here: https://seatac.greencitypartnerships.org/event/42/ \nOpen to the public \nAll ages OK \n8 out of 20 volunteers registered. \nWhat to Bring\nBring water and a personal snack. Wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes\, long sleeves and pants. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Hats are recommended and masks required. If you have gardening gloves or hand tools that you like to use\, feel free to bring them. \nWhere to Meet\nMeet behind the picnic shelter in the park near Des Moines Memorial Dr. S. and S. 128th St. If you arrive after the event starts and don’t see where it is\, call Noemie at 253-653-6028. \nMeeting Location Map \nWhere to Park\nThere is a small parking lot near this corner. If no spaces are available\, there’s usually parking on Des Moines Memorial Dr. S. across the street from the park – or in the lot near the NW Kidney Center off S. 128th St. near 20th Ave. S.

SUMMARY:Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony will be Thursday\, Nov. 11
DESCRIPTION:The City of SeaTac will honor military veterans at a memorial located by the SeaTac Community Center on Veteran’s Day – Thursday\, Nov. 11\, 2021 at 1 p.m. \nThe local Veterans Memorial honors military members of the past and present from every community and incorporates engraved tiles as a lasting way to remember loved ones who have served. These can be purchased for $125. \nThe SeaTac memorial was originally dedicated in 2019. A ceremony could not be held in 2020 because of the COVID 19 pandemic. This year’s ceremony will honor names added last year and this year. \nThis year a bagpiper will play and remarks will be made by SeaTac Mayor Erin Sitterley and the City’s Emergency Manager Will Lugo\, who is a retired Master Sergeant. \nAt Tuesday’s City Council meeting on Oct. 26\, Mayor Erin Sitterley read the following Veteran’s Day Proclamation: \nWHEREAS\, America’s veterans have fought to defend our country\, its values\, and its interests since the first days of our founding. They have defeated tyrants\, eliminated terrorists\, and secured freedom at home and abroad. Their courage and fortitude in the face of adversity serve as an example for all Americans. On Veterans Day\, we pause to pay tribute to all who have proudly worn our Nation’s uniform. These Soldiers\, Sailors\, Airmen\, Marines\, and Coast Guardsmen selflessly placed lives\, well‑being\, and security of others before their own. We enjoy the privileges of peace\, prosperity\, and freedom because of our veterans\, and we are forever indebted to them beyond measure; and \nWHEREAS\, for their love of country and dedication to duty\, America’s veterans have endured adversity\, loneliness\, fatigue\, loss\, and made other incredible sacrifices. Many sustained life-altering physical injuries and disabilities; others bear the burden of emotional scars for the remainder of their lives. Our Nation’s veterans fully understand liberty’s high and precious cost\, for they have paid it every day since the formation of our Republic; and \nWHEREAS\, our veterans represent the best of America\, and they deserve the best America can provide them. To recognize and respect the contributions our service men and women have made in defense of America\, and to advance the cause of peace\, the Congress has provided that November 11th of each year shall be set aside as a legal public holiday to recognize America’s veterans. These heroes served faithfully\, humbly\, and valiantly in times of war and peace\, and they carried these admirable traits into the civilian workforce when their military service was fulfilled. Our precious liberty has survived and thrived because of generations of brave Americans — from every background and walk of life — who have answered the call to support and defend the United States. The gravity of their contribution is immeasurable and so is our debt to every single one of our Nation’s veterans. \nNOW\, THEREFORE\, I\, Erin Sitterley\, along with the City Council\, do hereby proclaim November 11\, 2021\, as Veterans Day in the City of SeaTac. I encourage all residents of our City  to recognize the fortitude and sacrifice of our veterans through public ceremonies and private thoughts and prayers. I call upon our City to display the flag of the United States and to support this day with commemorative expressions and programs. Given under my hand and the seal of the City of SeaTac this 26th day of October 2021.

SUMMARY:BAT Theatre performing 'Hay Fever' at Riverton Heights Park Friday\, July 30
DESCRIPTION:Want to see a free play in the parks? Something beyond Shakespeare? BAT Theatre will be bringing Hay Fever to the parks\, including in SeaTac on Friday\, July 30\, 2021. \nThis adaptation of Hay Fever by Noël Coward will leave you laughing. It will start at 7 p.m. and be held at Riverton Heights Park\, located at 3011 S. 148th Street (map below). \nNow set in the 1960s\, this comedy follows the eccentric Bliss family during a weekend of misdirection that is anything but relaxing for their unsuspecting guests. \nHay Fever is a hilarious primer on how not to entertain visitors. \nJudith Bliss\, a recently retired actress for whom all the world is a stage\, never met a moment she couldn’t turn the spotlight on herself. When her self-absorbed progeny—Sorel and Simon—argue in her presence\, Judith manages to divert their attention to her needs\, which are bottomless. \nJudith invites a devoted fan\, a strapping young boxer Sandy Tyrell\, to the Bliss country home for a bit of flirting. She is not amused to discover that her daughter\, Sorel\, has asked an older man\, the assured diplomat Richard Greatham\, for the weekend. Meanwhile\, Simon has arranged for his crush\, Myra Arundel\, to come over for a cuddle. Completing the guestlist\, novelist father David Bliss\, has invited flapper Jackie Coryton to the house for “research purposes.” \nThe housekeeper\, Clara\, frets about running out of rooms and food for the unexpected guests. The mischief escalates as the romantic pairings keep changing and the Blisses’ familial rivalries intensify. \nHay Fever is suitable for the whole family. It runs for approximately 90 minutes\, without an intermission. \nThe cast: \nSorel: Suz Marie\nSimon: Kassey Castro\nClara: Angela Parisotto\nJudith: Rachel Rene\nDavid: Rex Waters\nSandy: Daniel Barber\nMyra: Rylie Latham\nRichard: Adrian Cerrato\nJackie: Miki Murray \nDirector: Rachel Rene \nStage Manager: Garth Ball \nLOCATIONS:: \nSeaTac: Friday\, July 30\, at 7 p.m.\nRiverton Heights Park\, 3011 S 148th St\, SeaTac\, WA 98168 \nDes Moines: Sunday\, August 15\, at 3 pm\nDes Moines Beach Park\, 22030 Cliff Ave S\, Des Moines\, WA 98198 – in the meadow \nBurien: Friday\, August 20\, at 7:30 pm\nBurien Town Square Park\, 480 SW 152nd St\, Burien\, WA 98166 \nNormandy Park: Sunday\, August 22\, at 5 pm\nMarvista Park\, 19990 4th Ave SW\, Normandy Park\, WA 98166 \nMore info here: https://battheatre.org/shows/current-season/hay-fever-by-noel-coward
