Pay attention to “No Parking Signs!” \nWHEN: Wednesday\, March 10\, 2021: 3 – 5 p.m. \nContact: \n\n\n\n\n\nDaniel Cuevas: dcuevas@forterra.org\nNoemie Maxwell (Forest Steward): noemie_maxwell@yahoo.com\n\n\n\n\n\nView Site Map \nHere’s the signup with details: https://seatac.greencitypartnerships.org/event/3/ \n“If you can’t join in the work\, feel free to come by and say hello anyway – socially distanced of course!” \nBefore attending this event\, please watch this COVID-19 Volunteer Event Safety Video: \n \nHere’s more from organizers: \nArrive wearing your cloth face covering. You will be expected to keep it on through the entire event. If you forget a mask\, extras will be available. Unfortunately\, we are unable to provide water and snacks during our events. Please come prepared with your own water bottle and food. You are welcome to bring your own hand sanitizer\, work gloves\, and specific tools applicable to the tasks outlined in the work plan below (please no power equipment). We will also supply gloves\, tools\, hand sanitizer\, well as sanitation spray for tools. \nThe brown land on the left side of the photo below shows the edge of this site. It may look discouraging now. But\, over the next year\, expect a transformation. Multiple volunteer work parties organized by the non-profit organization Forterra – with the support of the City of SeaTac and a grant from the Port of Seattle – are planned here. \n \nOver the next few months\, we’ll prepare the site for new plantings. The goal is to install new native trees and other native plants in the late fall. It will be beautiful! And so good to know in years to come that the community brought this area of the forest back to life. \nFollowup work events are planned at this site on first Thursdays and third Sundays of the month (Sunday March 21st from 3-5 // Thurs. April 1st from 10-12\, Sun April 18th from 3-5\, and so on.) \nThere is also a regular last-Sunday-of-the-month work party\, led by a different Forest Steward\, held near DMMDS and S. 128th in the mornings. SUMMARY:2021 Annual Fundraiser for Exchange Club of Highline will be Thursday\, Feb. 11
DESCRIPTION:“If you want to go fast\, go alone\, but if you want to go far\, go together.”\nThat has been the reason for the 60+ year success of the Exchange Club of Highline. \nThe service organization – devoted to making sure kids and families in our area don’t go without – has been a fixture in the communities of Burien\, Normandy Park\, White Center\, SeaTac\, Tukwila and Des Moines Washington since 1961. \nOver the years\, the 30+ community leaders who comprise the Exchange Club of Highline; have been volunteering and raising funds to support critical needs in our community; including the Highline Area Food Banks\, the ACE high school scholarships project\, Para Los Ninos\, the Highline Backpack Project\, We The People\, Hospitality House\, USO of SeaTac\, and many more. \nIn recent years\, the Exchange Club of Highline has conducted toilet paper/diaper drives; donating over 150\,000 items. These drives help to provide essential items\, not covered by the EBT program\, to our neighbors in need. \n“Within the past year\, the requests for funds and challenges faced by the local non-profit organizations have escalated\,” Exchange Club of Highline president\, Gail Smith said. “Just because we cannot execute our annual spaghetti fundraiser does not mean that the needs of some of our community’s neighbors\, can or should go un-addressed. Someone has to do something to help those in need at this critical time\, and this is why we are making a broader and bigger ask of our community.” \nBecky Brenner-Paulsen\, a newer member of the Exchange Club of Highline adds: \n“We know it is a very challenging time for everyone right now\, but many of our neighbors here in the Highline Area are in need\, and we know that the forward-thinking\, civic-minded residents of Burien\, Normandy Park\, White Center\, Tukwila\, SeaTac\, and Des Moines will dig deep and do what they can to contribute to our annual fundraiser and help their neighbors in need.” \n“Even if you are not in a position to donate at the moment\, we invite you to learn more about the Exchange Club of Highline and the people they serve\,” said District President-Elect Brian Trautmann. “Discover how our organization supports them during the February 11\, 2021 premier of our new short-film\, ‘Highline.’  These local non-profits need your help now. If you can’t donate financially\, perhaps you can roll up your sleeves and join us to help your neighbors in need.” \nVIDEO WILL PREMIERE AT FEB. 11 FUNDRAISER\nThe short-film Brenner-Paulsen mentioned can be viewed at the organization’s fundraiser event on Thursday\, Feb. 11\, 2021 at 7 p.m. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required and there is no cost to view.\nTo save your spot(s)\, simply register at https://bit.ly/3a7xgiZ.\nOpportunities to donate\, volunteer\, and help spread awareness about local issues will be made available.\n\n\n\nMore info on this great local organization here: https://exchangeclubofhighline.com.\n

SUMMARY:PNW Economic Equity Summit will be Friday morning\, Feb. 28
DESCRIPTION:The Renton and Seattle Southside Chambers of Commerce announced that tickets are still available for their first-ever PNW Economic Equity Summit\, being held on Friday\, Feb. 28\, 2020. \nThis event will be held from 7 – 11 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington in Renton. \nEvent organizers are thrilled to bring this collaborative event to our community and for the opportunity to gather regional business leaders\, policymakers\, and the community together to find real solutions to the challenges our community faces—specifically the economic inequity prevalent in King County. \nAs our local economy continues to soar and be the envy of many\, too many are also left out of the ride in prosperity. Gentrification has forced small businesses out of locations they’ve held for years and families are priced out of communities they’ve called home for generations. Many public agencies and private companies include equity initiatives as a goal or standard\, but are we taking decisive enough action to encourage and promote meaningful change? This event will challenge\, inspire\, and educate business leaders and policymakers on best practices and current trends as well as celebrate successes and encourage dialogue previously not part of the current conversation. \nWHAT: 2020 PNW Economic Equity Summit \nWHEN: Friday\, Feb. 28\, 2020\, from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. \nWHERE: Hyatt Regency Lake Washington\, 1053 Lake Washington Blvd N\, Renton\, WA 98056 \nAttendees will hear from both industry leaders and subject matter experts\, such as Bookda Gheisar\, the Senior Director of Equity\, Diversity\, and Inclusion from the Port of Seattle; Dr. John Mosby\, President of Highline College; Sam Kaplan\, Director of the Center of Excellence Global Trade & Supply Chain Management at Highline College; and King County Council Member Dave Upthegrove. They will share the stage with Storyteller Sharon Nyree Williams and Emcee and Pacific Northwest icon Tony Ventrella. \nIn addition\, nine members of our community will present their solutions to creating more economic equity in King County. Those proposals will be presented “pitch-style” at the first-ever Economic Equity Summit. This will be an interactive and purposefully collaborative and curated event to ensure equity is encouraged and promoted throughout. Attendees will also be entered to win our new door prize: 2 Alaska Airline Vouchers. A $2\,500 value\, these vouchers will allow our lucky winner and a guest to fly anywhere Alaska Airlines flies! \nWe extend our gratitude to our judges that will join our industry and subject matter experts in analyzing the nine community pitch solutions. They are Kate Becker\, Creative Economy Strategist for the Office of King County Executive Dow Constantine; Matthew Bennett\, CEO and Founder at Write Print Sell; Hugo Garcia\, Economic Development Program Manager for King County Department of Local Services; Zenovia Harris\, CEO of Kent Chamber of Commerce; Meagan McGuire\, Vice President\, Sales & Services at Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority; Kathy Pederson\, AVP Senior Loan Officer at First Financial Northwest Bank; and Susan Perreault\, Director of the Washington Women’s Business Center at Business Impact NW. \nSpecial thanks to all our sponsors\, including our Tier 1 Sponsors: Port of Seattle\, Kaiser Permanente\, and City of Renton. Sponsorship and engagement opportunities are still available. \nFor more information\, please contact Ben Andrews at BAndrews@GoRenton.com or feel free to call the Renton Chamber at (425) 226-4560 or the Seattle Southside Chamber at (206) 575-1633. \nThis event will only be possible and it’s most successful if we are able to gather and encourage both financial and strategic support from businesses\, individuals\, and public agencies that share our passion and desire to create more economic equity in King County. We hope you will join us. \n \nAbout the Renton Chamber of Commerce\nThe Renton Chamber’s mission is to improve business and economic conditions and the general welfare of the community. To that end\, the Chamber is in the business of serving business\, as it has for decades. The Chamber offers its members leadership development\, networking opportunities\, advocacy\, and resources to promote business prosperity. \nAbout the Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce\nThe Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit business organization that has served the communities of Burien\, Des Moines\, Normandy Park\, SeaTac\, and Tukwila since 1988. The Chamber focuses on business advancement in the region by helping to build and maintain a strong economic environment.

DESCRIPTION:Dive into the New Year (and new decade – does it actually start in 2020?) at a Polar Bear Plunge being held at Angle Lake in SeaTac on Wednesday\, Jan. 1\, 2020. \nThis open event will run from 11 a.m. – Noon at Angle Lake’s Manor Club Beach\, with the plunge starting at High Noon. \nParticipants are encouraged to wear costumes (perhaps like a local weather reporter?)\, and bring non-perishable food items or cash to donate to the local food bank. \nFrom the Angle Lake Shore Club blog: \n“Join us at the Manor Club Private Beach for the annual Polar Bear Plunge! \nWe’ll be joining hands at High Noon and then High Tail It through the water to the swim platform and back for small prizes and bragging rights! \nNot enough incentive for you to enter the frigid waters – well no reason why not to stand safely on the shores gawking and ridiculing those in the water! \nAll are welcome.” \nHere’s more from the Seattle Southside Regional Tourism Authority: \nA polar bear plunge is an event held during the winter where participants enter a body of water despite the low temperature. In the United States\, polar bear plunges are usually held to raise money for a charitable organization. In Canada\, polar bear swims are usually held on New Year’s Day to celebrate the new year. At Angle Lake – it is both! \nHelp neighbors in need by generously donating packaged food and cash while event attendees will benefit by being eligible to win fabulous prizes! Simply bring a donation\, enjoy a brunch buffet with coffee donated by Starbucks of Normandy Park and cheer or plunge at noon. For a heightened experience wear a costume and bring the kids. \nOne raffle ticket each will be awarded for: \n\n\n\nSimply showing up between 11 and Noon New Years Day at the Manor Club Beach\nShowing up in costume (if you plan to plunge or not)\nBringing non-perishable food items or cash to donate to the food bank (1 ticket per donor)\nTaking the plunge!\n\n\n\nTo help ensure that the maximum number of attendees experience winning a prize\, only one prize will be awarded per individual. \nPhoto courtesy Angle Lake Shore Club blog.
