SUMMARY:‘You’ll see things’ at the 3rd annual Men in Black Birthday Bash on Saturday\, June 22
DESCRIPTION:“You’ll see things” at the third annual festival celebrating the anniversary of the world’s first encounter with the iconic Men in Black on Saturday\, June 22\, 2024 at the Quarterdeck in Des Moines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Men In Black Birthday Bash (MIBBB) is the main event of MIBBB Fest 2024. \n\n\n\nTickets are on sale now on Eventbrite. Tickets include music\, light snacks\, and an exclusively curated box of MIBBB swag. \n\n\n\nThe Birthday Bash features music by DJ MI2 playing a curated set of pop songs suited for the lovers of MIB mythology. A mysterious special guest will deliver the annual Warning (classified information only accessible to those in attendance.) \n\n\n\nPartygoers come dressed as Men in Black or in other black-and-white attire. \n\n\n\nMIBBB Fest commemorates the first recorded sighting of a Man in Black: \n\n\n\n On June 22\, 1947\, a Tacoma man named Harold Dahl was visited by a man dressed in a black suit and fedora the day after Dahl allegedly saw six UFOs over Puget Sound. Known as the Maury Island Incident\, the encounter was the first UFO sighting during the Summer of the Saucers\, when thousands of UFO incidents were reported worldwide. \n\n \nPhotos by Sean Puno. \n\nThe encounter inspired the award-winning film The Maury Island Incident\, written by local historian and MIBBB Fest co-founder Steve Edmiston\, directed by Scott Schaefer and executive produced by John White. \n\n\n\n“Our local connection to Men In Black lore has captured the attention of thousands of UFO aficionados and publications and was even recognized by our Washington State Senate in Resolution 8648\,” Edmiston added. “But not many locals are aware that MIB mythology originated right here in our backyard. MIBBB Fest is our chance to celebrate this quirky bit of local history.” \n\n\n\nTickets Available Now\n\n\n\nThis year’s MIBBB Fest includes a Film + Dance Party featuring Boots! on Friday\, June 21. \n\n\n\nTickets for all MIBBB Fest events are on sale now at EventBrite. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit MIBBB Fest website\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollow MIBBB on Facebook \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollow MIBBB on Instagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Steve Edmiston\n\n\n\nSteve is an appointee to the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau\, and has keynoted the Washington State Historical Society\, Smith Tower Rumrunners Club\, McMenamin’s History Pubs\, conferences\, festivals\, historical societies\, and business groups.  He is also a business\, entertainment\, and IP attorney\, and independent film screenwriter/producer. He is credited with four feature films (including Lifetime’s Crimes of the Past). His award-winning shorts include The Maury Island Incident\, The Day My Parents Became Cool\, and Thr33. \n\n\n\nLearn more about Steve Edmiston here.

SUMMARY:Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle High School holding Open House on Thursday\, Jan. 4

In Washington State\, the rate of college enrollment dropped 10 percent between the high school graduating classes of 2019 and 2021\, according to numbers released by the Washington Roundtable. Over 35 Seattle-area businesses have already agreed to work with CRJS students\, including Amazon\, Microsoft\, Twitch\, Premera\, Costco\, PACCAR\, and more. These partnerships help cover a portion of the cost of tuition for students\, while providing valuable work experience and resume building opportunities. \n\n\n \nCollege enrollment and completion is the goal for all students. The Cristo Rey University Partner program includes over 75 universities and colleges across the country. These partners agree to prioritize graduates in recruitment\, provide tuition assistance\, support\, and resources\, ensuring college completion. 100% of the CRN Class of 2022 seniors were accepted into college. CRN graduates earn college degrees at twice the rate of their similarly situated peers. \n\n\n \n100% of families receive financial assistance and tuition for every family at CRJS will be $250 – $2\,500 or less annually. The average income of enrolled families across the Network is $41\,000. CRN students are culturally and linguistically diverse\, identifying as 98% young people of color.  \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen House is Thursday\, Jan. 4\, 2024\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCristo Rey Jesuit Seattle is currently accepting 9th grade students for the fall of 2024. SUMMARY:Pardoning Ceremony for 'Dinner or Pardon' turkeys will be Tuesday\, Nov. 21
DESCRIPTION:Live Turkeys on display in Normandy Park through Thanksgiving are looking for your food donations!\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is the 6th Annual Krull Family Turkey Food Drive\, taking place at their home in Normandy Park.\n\n\n\n\n\n“Each year we ask the community to come vote on if we should “eat” or “pardon” our pet turkeys\,” Tay Krull said. “The public can come meet the turkeys and donate non perishable food items into the ‘eat’ or ‘pardon’ bin\, and each item in the bin is a vote!”\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is an ongoing event that will continue through Thanksgiving\, and the Krull’s keep a running tally of how people are voting – currently it’s 340 for “eat” and 641 for “pardon”.\n\n\n\n\n\nAll food donations collected will be donated to Transform Burien’s food bank. Transform Burien is experiencing an increase in people served and are in greater need of food donations this year.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Krull’s food drive has also started much slower in donations than in past years. Usually the food drive collects around 4\,000 – 6\,000 food items and with about a week until Thanksgiving the total is sitting below 1\,000.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s Pardoning Ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday\, Nov. 21\, 2023 at 20003 3rd Ave SW\, Normandy Park (map below).  Empire Coffee will be serving free coffee and hot chocolate to all (except the turkeys).\n\n\n\n\n\n“We hope people will come visit the turkeys and donate generously through Thanksgiving Day!”

SUMMARY:Grand opening of The Roadhouse at Angle Lake Station will be Sunday\, Oct. 29
DESCRIPTION:The Roadhouse – a new\, community-focused performance space – will be holding its official Public Opening on Sunday\, Oct. 29\, 2023\, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.\, and all are invited. \nThe Roadhouse is located at the Angle Lake Link Light Rail Station in SeaTac. \nThe 2\,000-square-foot space has been a long time coming\, and the opening will include live performances by South King County artists Huraiti Mana\, Seiha and Adobee. \nThe new space highlights and celebrates the many cultures and musical styles in the area\, along with artists and musicians living and working in South King County\, and connects transit riders with the places they are traveling through. \nThe venue name “The Roadhouse” is a nod to the musical history in this area. In the 1930s through the 1960s a number of dance halls were located in South King County\, midway between the urban centers of Seattle and Tacoma. The most well-known was the Spanish Castle\, which featured local musicians and national acts\, as well as the first on-stage appearance of a young Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix’s song “Spanish Castle Magic” was inspired by the Spanish Castle. \n \nHere’s a video promo: \n \nThis new space is  supported by the Sound Transit Art Program (STart)\, and managed by Show Brazil Productions. \nMore details and free tickets are here: \nhttps://theroadhouseofficialopen.rsvpify.com/ \nMore info here: \n\nhttps://theroadhouse.art/\nFacebook page\n\nThe Angle Lake Station is located at 19955 28th Ave S\, SeaTac\, WA 98188:
