SUMMARY:Help send baby Coho salmon into Des Moines Creek on Saturday\, April 26
DESCRIPTION:The City of SeaTac is inviting residents to take part in a hands-on environmental event on Saturday\, April 26\, 2025\, as hundreds of baby Coho salmon raised at the SeaTac Community Center are released into Des Moines Creek. \nThe annual salmon release will take place starting at 10 a.m. at the Des Moines Creek Trail\, located at 2151 S. 200th Street (map below). \nFamilies and individuals of all ages are welcome to attend the free\, family-friendly event. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to pick out and name their own young salmon — known as fry — before gently sending them off into the creek to begin their journey to the sea. \nThe event is designed to foster environmental awareness and celebrate local ecosystems. \n“This is a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to connect with nature\, learn about salmon and the importance of clean waterways\, and take part in something that directly benefits our environment\,” city organizers said. \nIn addition to releasing the fry\, attendees can learn about the salmon life cycle\, how stormwater runoff affects local waterways\, and steps the public can take to protect water quality in SeaTac’s creeks and lakes. \nParking and Accessibility\nParking is limited at the trailhead\, so attendees are encouraged to park at nearby Angle Lake Park and use a free shuttle service that will run approximately every 10 minutes starting at 9:30 a.m. The release site is a 7–8-minute walk from the trailhead. \nThe Angle Lake Link Light Rail station is also located less than half a mile from the trail\, though access from the station includes a steep hill. \nThe event will take place rain or shine\, and guests are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. \nPhotos from last year’s salmon release (courtesy the City of SeaTac) showed smiling children watching their named fish swim away into the creek.
