The SeaTac City Council unanimously passed a six-year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) during its meeting on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The approval comes with additional transparency to the community regarding transportation improvement projects happening in the city.

This transparency comes in the form of supplemental tools developed by city staff and include:

  • An interactive map showing TIP projects
  • A dedicated webpage complete with translation tools
  • A public comment portal for community discourse
  • Documentation of studies and programs

These resources can be found on the city’s website here.

Additionally, public feedback regarding the city’s transportation infrastructure is documented throughout the year and used to inform and assess the transportation improvement plan.

Improvement priorities were determined using a criteria-based evaluation that included:

  • Safety
  • Operational Efficiency
  • Equity
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Financial feasibility

As with any endeavor, funding is a concern. When Councilmember Peter Kwon posed the question of how secure the funding is for the projects, Interim Director of Public Works, Florendo Cabudol, affirmed there is cause to be cautious.

“Yes, I think we should be worried about the revenue forecast,” he told council before ending on a more positive note.

“Let me preface that by saying, the project we have in the queue, specifically the project we have for construction next year, we’re fully funded for that. And we have the backing, the grants and the monies that we’ve been awarded. That being said,” he added, “grant funding is an integral and important part of our funding strategy and so with any changes to the revenue forecast we will need to adapt accordingly.
