The City of SeaTac officially closed Angle Lake to swimming, boating, and paddle boarding on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, citing elevated E. coli levels.

The announcement was made on the city’s Instagram account, informing SeaTac residents that E. coli can come from natural wildlife sources, including geese, and asked visitors to Angle Lake not to feed the geese while enjoying the water.

This closure comes right on the heels of a controversial closure of Angle Lake Park on the evening of July 4 due to safety concerns from the city. The popularity of the park during the holiday festivities resulted in an occupancy of three times the amount of safe capacity, causing the city to take this step. A 4th of July park closure is also planned for the summer of 2026.

The city said in a statement:

Given the information cited by emergency responders and due to the data received, councilmembers decided to pause the 4th of July events for 25-26 due to public safety concerns.”

The water quality of Angle Lake is tested weekly and the city anticipates it will return to safe levels soon.

Signage has been posted at the park warning visitors to stay out of the water for their own safety.
