An injury collision involving a sedan, a motorcycle and a third vehicle blocked northbound lanes of I-5 near 188th Street for approximately three hours and 59 minutes on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6:31 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Here’s what Troopers said happened:
- A sedan and a motorcycle were both traveling northbound in lane 3, while another vehicle was traveling northbound in lane 5.
- The sedan and the motorcycle attempted to merge into lane 4 at the same time.
- The sedan struck the motorcycle, pushing it into lane 5.
- The motorcycle was unable to slow in time and collided with the vehicle in lane 5.
- The motorcycle and the third vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder.
- The sedan continued north for about six miles before stopping in a parking lot in Burien.
- The collision blocked northbound lanes of I-5 near 188th Street in SeaTac for nearly four hours.
Troopers listed the cause as speed. The agency reported no involvement of drugs or alcohol.
The motorcycle rider was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center. Washington State Patrol noted he was wearing a helmet.
The driver of Vehicle 3 and passenger were not injured.
WSP listed charges of vehicular assault and reckless driving to the driver of Vehicle 1.
On I-5 northbound just south of S 188th St (MP 152) there is a collision blocking the HOV lane.
