Highline Schools Foundation’s ‘Winter Warm Up’ event raises $120,000 to support local students

The Highline Schools Foundation raised nearly $120,000 at its 2025 Winter Warm Up Dinner & Auction at the Normandy Park Cove to support basic needs programs across Highline Public Schools, according to the foundation.

The total marks an increase of about $50,000 from last year’s event, the foundation reported.

Funds will help provide essentials such as food, clothing, and other resources for students and families in the district, which serves communities in Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac, Normandy Park, and White Center.

“What a magical evening we shared,” said Fred Swanson, Executive Director of Highline Schools Foundation. “The dreary rain was unable to dampen the spirits of our incredible supporters, who outdid themselves in showing up with warmth, generosity and love. We’re so grateful to be in this community that shows up so powerfully for our students, families, educators, friends and neighbors.”

In addition to fundraising, attendees donated dozens of new coats that will be distributed before winter break to students in need of cold-weather gear. Distribution will be coordinated by school social workers, counselors, and other district staff.

Speakers included Family and Community Engagement Specialist Roderick Branca, Pacific Middle School Social Worker April Reyes, Superintendent Ivan Duran, and School Board Vice President Joe Van.

The foundation thanked guests, volunteers, local businesses that contributed items and desserts, and sponsors for helping make the event a success.

The foundation said it will continue working with schools and community partners to meet the basic needs of Highline students throughout the winter.
