The City of SeaTac this week officially launched its search for a new City Manager, offering a compelling opportunity to lead a city that serves as a major transportation hub for the Puget Sound region.

Currently, the City’s Interim City Manager is Kyle Moore, who formerly served as the city’s Government Relations and Communications Manager. He was appointed by the City Council, effective May 2, 2024. Moore has an extensive background in public service and has been with the City for nearly six years.

SeaTac is home to approximately 32,000 residents, but its daily population surges to nearly 195,000 due to the presence of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a key feature entirely within the city’s boundaries.

The incoming City Manager will have a crucial role in guiding a diverse and dynamic community, where 62% of residents identify as persons of color.

The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government, with an elected seven-member City Council that appoints the City Manager.

The position commands a salary range of $225,000 to $275,000 annually, depending on qualifications, and the deadline to apply is Nov. 20, 2024.

The City Manager will oversee a biennial budget of $194 million and manage a dedicated team of 137 full-time employees across several departments, including Community & Economic Development, Finance, Parks & Recreation, Public Works, and public safety functions such as the Fire Department (Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority) and SeaTac Police Department (contracted by the King County Sheriff’s Office). Additionally, the City Manager’s responsibilities extend to maintaining a collaborative and respectful working relationship with city employees and unions.

SeaTac is characterized by its vibrant economy, with a significant concentration of hotels, motels, and the headquarters of Alaska Airlines within its boundaries. The city has a strong commitment to being economically robust, environmentally sensitive, and people-oriented, and it is looking for a City Manager who embodies these values. The ideal candidate will be service-oriented, actively engaged with the community, and focused on building strong relationships with residents, businesses, and regional partners.

The City of SeaTac has a well-established financial standing and a strong leadership team, providing a stable foundation for the incoming City Manager to build upon. The position offers a unique chance to lead a city that plays a critical role in the region’s transportation network, ensuring that it remains a safe, vibrant, and inclusive place for all who live, work, and travel through it.
