BAT Theatre will stage the Northwest premiere of The Coast Starlight by Keith Bunin from Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
The play follows a young man carrying a life-changing secret who boards a long-distance train, where encounters with fellow travelers help him navigate choices and possibilities.
The 90-minute show, which contains some adult language and content, is described by BAT as “a smart, funny, and compassionate story about our capacity for invention and re-invention when life goes off the rails.”
Artistic Director Maggie Larrick said BAT has pursued rights to the play for years.
“For the last few years, BAT has been asking and re-asking Keith Bunin’s agent for the rights to produce The Coast Starlight,” Larrick said in program notes. “It seems this year we finally wore them down. As the shodō art in my office says, ‘persistence is the way of Zen.’ Tonight, BAT’s persistence is paying off for you. We are certain you will enjoy The Coast Starlight as much as we do.”
The production stars Joey Sponseller as T.J., Ariel Rose as Jane, Ben Bailey as Noah, Nicole Lockett as Liz, Sean Morrin as Ed, and Alyson Lapan as Anna.
Special discount events include “Lucky 13 Saturday” on Sept. 27, when tickets are $13, and “$7 Sunday” on Sept. 28. All student tickets are always $5. BAT encourages anyone for whom ticket price is a barrier to contact the theater directly at info@BATtheatre.org.
BAT thanked 4Culture, the City of Burien, and Kennedy Catholic High School for their support, along with community donors.
Performances take place at Kennedy Catholic’s Little Theater in Burien (map below).
