A Burien Police Deputy’s quick observation helped trigger a rapid response to a fast-spreading apartment fire in SeaTac on May 20, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).
The deputy spotted a fire at an apartment complex and reported that it was spreading quickly. The deputy could see flames coming from a back deck and ran up to help evacuate residents, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Several other deputies responded to the scene and went door to door to evacuate residents from the building. All occupants were able to get out safely, and no injuries were reported.
The Sheriff’s Office said the affected apartment unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
As we previously reported, the fire in the 19700 block of International Boulevard was suppressed by the building’s fire protection sprinkler system.
Puget Sound Fire also responded to the incident and conducted an investigation into the fire.
“Lifesaving can take on many forms,” KCSO said in a statement. “At the King County Sheriff’s Office, you never know where the day might take you.”
