The 31-year-old SeaTac man who was shot and killed in Edmonds on Jan. 3, 2024 has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Abdikarir Gedi Shariif.

Medical Examiners said that Shariif died from a gunshot wound to the head.

As we previously reported, Shariif was shot and killed in Edmonds on Wednesday night, Jan. 3, 2024, after what may have been a chance encounter with the suspect.

The initial call came in just after 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night when multiple callers reported the rideshare driver of a vehicle had been shot and the suspect had fled on foot at the intersection of 236th Street SW and Edmonds Way (SR 104).

When officers arrived, they found Shariif in critical condition from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported by aid to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Several witnesses told investigators that the suspect was on foot and fired multiple times at a vehicle before fleeing eastbound on 236th Street SW. Multiple Snohomish County police agencies, as well as Shoreline Police assisted with the search for the suspect. K9 units and drones were used to aid the search, but the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as a White or Hispanic male in his teens to early 20s with curly, dark hair. He was last seen wearing a hoody and all-black clothing. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators have determined that the suspect was crossing Edmonds Way, and the victim was turning left towards the suspect. There was no obvious altercation before the suspect opened fire, mortally wounding the victim.

GoFundMe Started

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created by the Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association to help pay for Shariif’s funeral and memorial services.

“He was a dedicated driver and cherished member of the Abubakr Islamic Center of WA, Tukwila,” organizers said. “He spent his time volunteering at the Mosque and was remembered for his kindness. His sudden death is a somber reminder that with thousands of Rideshare drivers on the road, we may see more victims and tragedies. It’s crucial to rally support for our local Ride-Share Drivers in these challenging times. Please help us with his funeral expenses.”

The fundraiser had raised $6,427 of its $7,500 goal by Sunday night, Jan. 7, 2024.
