Last week, King County announced the awarding of $264,000 in youth sports grants to several impactful programs in SeaTac.
These grants are designed to enhance access to sports and recreational activities for young people, particularly those from underserved communities, and reflect King County’s ongoing commitment to supporting healthy, active lifestyles for all youth.
Among the grant recipients are several noteworthy organizations making a significant impact in SeaTac:
- African Community Housing & Development (ACHD): $74,955
- ACHD will use these funds to support its high-quality outdoor education programs, which improve physical and mental health, social-emotional learning, family connections, and a sense of place for African Diaspora immigrant and refugee youth in South King County.
- Congolese Integration Network: $100,000
- The grant will support the “Stay Active” program, which provides free outdoor soccer opportunities for Sub-Saharan refugees and immigrant youth. This initiative aims to address barriers such as language, racism, and trauma, while promoting healing, preventing the school-to-prison pipeline, and ensuring access to recreational spaces.
- Skyhawks Sports Academy: $88,900
- The Rise Sports of All Sorts programs funded by this grant will expand recreational opportunities for toddlers in under-resourced communities. These programs will offer dynamic, game-based learning experiences that foster fine motor skill development and engage both youth and their parents.

- The Sports for All Summer Camps, supported by this grant, aim to advance play equity by addressing barriers that prevent youth and families from accessing sports programs. This initiative seeks to ensure that all children have equitable access to recreational activities and summer camps.
“These grants are a testament to our commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive environments for our youth. Each of these programs plays a crucial role in providing valuable opportunities for children to engage in sports and develop important life skills,” said King County Council Chair Dave Upthegrove.
The grants are part of a larger 63 project package that includes $3.5 million in Youth and Amateur Sports Grants and $1.5 million for the Healthy Communities and Parks Fund, supported by the voter-approved King County Parks Levy.
This funding benefits cities, school districts, park districts, and community organizations throughout the region.
