The SeaTac City Council has chosen Jonathan Young (pictured, right) as its new city manager following a comprehensive selection process, including a review of 28 candidates, interviews with finalists, and community input.

The council announced its decision at its meeting on Tuesday night, Nov. 19, 2024, and will now enter contract negotiations with Young.

Final action on the contract is expected on Dec. 10.

Young got the gig after the other finalist, William Appleton, decided to withdraw his application due to personal/family reasons.

He will replace outgoing Interim City Manager Kyle Moore, who held the position since being appointed by the SeaTac City Council in May, 2024.

Young brings approximately 16 years of public sector experience, primarily in Washington municipal law. For the past five years, he has served as City Attorney for Vancouver, WA, where he also previously held roles as City Division Chief and Assistant City Attorney.

Earlier in his career, Young worked as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Benton County.

Young holds a Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. He is also a member of the International City Management Association.

The council praised Young’s qualifications and leadership experience, expressing optimism about his potential to guide SeaTac in addressing the city’s goals and challenges.
