City of SeaTac Councilmember Senayet Negusse has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2025 Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee.
Negusse has served in Council Position #1 since January, 2024.
Negusse was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on workforce development, education, early childhood, public health, mental health, substance use, veterans, seniors, immigration, and more.
The appointment was announced this week by NLC President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio.
“I am honored to serve on the Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee and look forward to collaborating with both local and federal leaders,” Negusse said. “This role provides a valuable opportunity to advance SeaTac’s priorities and ensure our community’s needs are effectively represented at the federal level.”
As a member of NLC’s Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee, Councilmember Negusse will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns, and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home in SeaTac, Washington.
“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are vital for uplifting the voices and needs of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages to decision-makers in Washington,” Patterson said. “I am excited to work with Councilmember Negusse and look forward to supporting the SeaTac vision and leadership as the City serves on the Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee this year and help grow the partnership between local and federal leaders.”
The leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair Kim Norton, Mayor of Rochester, Minnesota; Vice Chair Michael O’Connor, Mayor of Frederick, Maryland; and Vice Chair John Strand, Commissioner of Fargo, North Dakota.
