King County residents passionate about environmental sustainability and food equity can now apply for the Soil & Water Stewards program, an eight-month hands-on training in regenerative food systems and environmental stewardship.

Offered by Tilth Alliance, the program provides participants with skills in organic gardening, soil health, water conservation, and habitat restoration through educational workshops and community-based projects across King County.

Participants will meet one weekend per month from March through October, with Saturday sessions focusing on environmental education—offered via Zoom or in person at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. Sundays will be dedicated to hands-on community service projects in South and East King County.

The program seeks applicants with a commitment to community engagement and environmental justice. Priority will be given to those living or working in Burien, Bellevue, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kirkland, Normandy Park, Redmond, Issaquah, SeaTac, Tukwila, and South Seattle neighborhoods, as well as BIPOC applicants.

A sliding-scale materials fee ($0-$300) will help fund community projects, and limited monthly stipends are available to assist with transportation and childcare costs.

“We’re excited to host another robust cohort of leaders to impact positive change for local ecosystems and communities,” said Garden Education Specialist Alexandria Soleil.

Applications are due by Wednesday, Mar. 5, 2025. Interested applicants can apply online (link below) or contact program organizers for more information.

The initiative is supported by Cascade Water Alliance, the Port of Seattle’s South King County Fund Environmental Grants Program, and King County’s WaterWorks Grant Program.
